We are very unhappy customers of Fischer Homes, think twice before you build with them. We built a new home with Fischer Homes of Columbus, OH in the neighborhood of Heritage Preserve in Hilliard Ohio, still within 1 year warranty. We would like to express our unhappiness and frustration about the quality of construction, customer support, and problem resolution provided by Fischer Homes. Since we’ve moved in our home, we had to spend at least 1-2 days almost every week dealing with various problems with the home and contractors coming to fix these problems. We have had multiple meetings with the two (now three) superintendents and their supervisor Jorge E., and hundreds of emails exchanged.
The whole house (the walls in all rooms and closets) had to be repainted after we moved in because the home was not painted the color we ordered. Towel and paper holders were installed in the wrong places, had to be moved. Water lines to washer were never installed/connected so there was no water coming to the washer. The humidifier leaked water, the furnace exhaust pipes leaked condensation, the A/C breaker fuse burned out leaving us without A/C on second day of use, several windows leaked rain water, the outdoor faucet broke down, the sump pump broke down, sump pump separated due to settlements, bathroom vanity had to be resurfaced, gutter underground drains got clogged due to poor design. It took Fischer Homes 8 months after closing to do external paint touch ups. The landscaping company had installed the neighbors’ irrigation system on our property so it had to be ripped out and moved. The other neighbors lost 6-9 inches of their property because of a fence when the electric box was not on the property line.
There were settlements and water pooling against basement walls for 6 weeks – Fischer Homes did nothing to fix it. The settlements were filled and immediately a concrete patio was installed on ground that never had a chance to settle. Of course the ground collapsed again and the whole winter we had water pooling against foundation – again Fischer Homes nothing. By Spring, much of the ground around the house and under the porch had collapsed/settled again. The sod around the house and several places around the yard had to be ripped out and re-sodded again. We learned that utility pedestals can be raised for free by the utility companies so the builder finally had to also properly grade that area. The construction workers left a wreck in the nature conservation area next to the property, it took calls to the City of Hilliard Government to intervene to finally get the preservation area re-seeded. By the winter, the ground had settled again and now we will have do to another round of ripping the grass out, filling settlements and re-sodding areas.
The builder installed waterproofing (black tar) around the basement below the ground level so water was coming in contact with un-waterproof part of the foundation. The ground around the house was dug about a foot down and the black tar was resprayed again on the foundation. The waterproofing company BoneDry did a botched job trying to raise the waterproofing.
The basement leaked and had to be fixed several times, exactly in the areas where the ground was not properly graded and settlements were left unaddressed by Fischer Homes for months.
There are clicking noises from the HVAC, so frequent and loud that makes it hard to sleep in the master bedroom in our home – it is a maddening experience trying to live in house with non-stop clicking. The HVAC company has been to our home many times trying to fix the clicking noise problem. Fischer Homes without inspecting anything themselves has called everything normal and refused to fix this problem. We are being sent straight to arbitration, that's how useless warranties are.
Do not build with Fischer Homes, or be prepared to deal with all kinds of issues.
